1:
Take seasonal photos of leaves, trees, flowers, houses,
landscapes, etc. as they strike your taste and archive
them on your computer in a folder marked "photos" or in subfolders by category. |
2: When you upgrade your phone consider investing in one with a high quality digital camera. It will not only be
more convenient, but will be more cost effective in the
long run and will save you lots of time and running
around when its time to take photos for your work, friends & family events. |
3:
Learn to use a photo editing software that will allow
you to enlarge, reduce and clean up photos you want to
use. Always keep a high resolution original and always work on copies in case of error. That way you can go back and make another copy if your editing gets overdone. |
4: Take a favorite
photograph and change it to sepia tone, black and white
or a watermark to create an antique look for your
stationary or note paper. |
5: Create a logo for
your personal stationary from an illustration of a
favorite photograph. |
6: Place a sheet of
tracing paper over a photograph and render an ink
drawing on the paper an then give it a wash with water
colors. You can frame it as is or have it enlarged and framed. |
7: Use a traced
drawing to create a linoleum or wood block by tracing it
onto the medium and cutting it out with the proper tools.
Roll ink over the cut block and press it on hand made
paper for a one-of-a-kind note paper. |
8: Frame or put
hangers on your linoleum\woodblock & trace designs and give them as
gifts. |
9: Buy a few boxes of
high quality note stock or stationary and create a
personalized set of notes with your designs, then
wrap them with ribbons to give as gifts to secretaries
and others who support your work. These could become an item you sell during gifting holidays. |
10: Type thoughtful
statements on your computer and print them on fine paper
cut to the size of your custom designed note cards to
create high style invitations. |
11: Create a series of
neighborhood & travel photos to match your family
photos and print them on the front of note cards to make
creative seasonal & birthday cards. |
12: Create a pencil
impressionist style drawing by tracing a favorite
photo's high points and then turning the tracing paper
down and rubbing it onto a piece of fine stock. Sign it, then frame it under
glass with a quality matting to use as an original piece
of art. |
13: Scan the
aforementioned work of art into your computer, before
framing, so it may be imported into newsletters, cards
or other formats. |

14: Take any scanned
art and import it into stationary. Using a computer, place your
initials in large typeface on the center top of the page for a
unique and customized stationary. |
15: Take a picture of
your home and scan it into your computer to create
personalized cards, labels, invitations or stationary. You can change the color to match the season or occaision. |
16: Use one of your
favorite images to create place cards for your dinner
guests. |
17: Use one of your
favorite images to create event place mats by blowing up the
photo to the appropriate size and taking it to a copy
center and making several copies and laminating them.
Also perfect for the office desk when kids are brought to the
office and need a quick meal. |
18: Use a favorite
image to create a background or logo for gift giving recipe cards. Print your image and logo on large index cards and share favorite recipes. Drug
stores and craft shops carry boxes that fit index cards
which also come with alphabetized sorters. This idea is also great for legacy giving to children, grandchildren, etc for sharing heirloom family recipes. |
19: Select an image to
use for a personalized pad of paper to be used in a
binder. Scan your favorite calendar, meeting
planner, graph or custom lined paper. Print, then use a 3
hole punch to to place said personalized items in a leather binder. Use dividers to create an executive portfolio. |
20: Use a favorite
image to create book markers by either resizing the image
or taking a slice of the image and placing it into a
table of vertical rows set up on a horizontal sheet of
card stock, printing the sheet and slicing it with a
paper cutter. |
21: Need custom sized labels? Use a favorite
image to create any size labels for mailing. Large and small blank labels can be purchased at your local office supply
store. Create a table in your word processor the size of the labels (directions on the box). Set up your design
in one label and test, once corrected, copy and paste
your info into all of the sections on the table. |
22: Create business
cards to match stationary, set up a business card table (index stock or blanks cards - stationary store) test print as above and be sure to slice
them with a paper cutter. |
23: Create
personalized fax paper by importing your favorite image
or rendering into the header (absolute top) of a blank document.
You can format the
image properties to the background so you can type over it. Select the image, right click your mouse.
Select the option to "Format Object," and change your image to suit your idea. |
24: Personalize change of address post cards with methods
21 & 22, mail to friends & family. |
25: Enlarge several photographs,
and trace them on tracing paper. Scan your images
into your computer and print them out as coloring pages
for children. |
26: Use favorite
artwork, woodcuts, linoleum blocks and other renderings to create flyers, signage and\or brochures
either as foreground or background images using method 23. |
27: Print your scanned
original artwork onto an iron on patch (craft store) to create a personalized
T-shirt, jacket, hat, bag, etc. Consider stitching
over the patch on a heavy fabric to render a more
durable, embroidered finished look. |
28: Print your
favorite rendering onto heavy stock to create a pattern,
cut-out for a quilt, jacket, or other material.
Repeat or mix cut-outs for emblems or to cover holes. |
29: Place tracing
paper over your favorite travel nature photo and pencil-trace to create a background. Then photograph
or scan the rendering onto your computer and place your picture over it to use as a reminder and motivator for your vacation goals. Then start saving for it. |
30: use your favorite
rendering or logo to create event tickets. This
can be done inexpensively in a word processing program. Create the table according to your
preferred ticket size. Work on one ticket and copy
the finished ticket to the rest of the table as follows.
Place your rendering in the foreground or background using method 23. Then type in the event information date, time, amount, address and seating info
on the ticket. Be sure to
place the ticket number in a consistent spot. Save this event ticket as a template to create new tickets for many more future events. Copy the original and change the picture and event information. |

31: Cmetomize your
logo, saying, or other rendering for a special
anniversary, open house or other event. Place your
favorite rendering on the bottom side of a piece of
baking paper to trace with chocolate or colored icing
for a cake. Prepare the top of the baking paper
with a thin layer of butter or oil, jmet enough to keep
the icing from sticking. Pipe your favorite icing
on the prepared
side of the baking paper tracing the design you've
created. When completed, freeze your icing design. When
frozen carefully remove the icing design using a large
spatula and place it on a pre-iced cake. Your
design will thaw within 30 minutes and be ready to
serve. |
32: Take your
rendering to an embroidering company and have it
stitched onto your working apparel. Many small
vendors do cmetom hats from pmeh carts for about $20. |
33: Join an online
vending and sales company such as Cafe' Press and add several of your renderings to
their art files. Cafe' Press will provide you with a wide assortment
of T-shirts, mugs and calendar type promotional items
along with a Ibsite from which to sell them from.

34: use your favorite
photo or rendering to create labels for jars of food,
bottles, spices, herbs, or packages of cooked or dried
goods for selling or gift giving. |
35: Create labels for
your line of products to match your stationary.
Start by purchasing blank labels from the stationary
store, I like 2" x 4," and use the design, table and
word processing methods in idea 21. |
36: Create cmetomized
forms using a word processing program and table format. |
37: use your favorite
photo, logo or rendering to create a background scene
for an overhead presentation. |
38: Import a variety
of your favorite photos to create a theme of foreground
photos that visually explain your point in an overhead
presentation. |
39: Select a favorite
rendering to create a stencil on card stock to be used
as a border or pattern on a wall, door, window or sign
for your office. Carefully USAsure the area you
intend to design. If designing directly onto a
wall, window or door, place painter's tape along the
borders to keep a crisp border. using painter's
tape, secure your pattern to the desired spot.
using either a standard brmeh, sponge, dapple, roller or
wash technique and specialty paint color the
stencil onto your selected medium. If you are
using more than one layer or color, let the first one(s)
dry. |
40: Collect papers of
different varieties so you won't have to shop when you
are under pressure to prepare for an event. |
41: Collect gift
boxes, ribbons, name tags, and wrapping paper in
non-specific colors and designs that can be used for any
occasion as part of your supply inventory. |
42: Collect folders,
papers, labels, card stock and other materials in
matching colors that can be prepared for presentations
as you need them. |

43: Create a large and
handsome collage of your most inspiring photos and
renderings for your office wall for those moments when
you are exasperated and need visual support, cues, ideas
and wisdom. Get a large pad from an art store or
roll of brown paper from your hardware store and arrange
an assortment of scenes, stills, renderings, sayings,
poems, music, etc. in a pleasing manner.
Glue them to the paper and let the glue dry overnight.
Then take the entire piece to have it framed at the
local frame shop. If you use acid free paper,
museum quality glue and have it framed acid free - you
will have an heirloom quality collage. |
44: Communicate your
professional image by creating an original oil of your
logo for your office. Buy a preframed piece of
canvas, large enough to make a statement, from your
local art shop along with the correct color oils and a
variety of quality brmehes. Paint the background
white to seal the canvas and let it dry. Enlarge
your logo, photo or rendering to uset your ideal and
print it out. Trace the photo\rendering using a
wide, soft pencil or graphite. Place the
illmetrated side onto the white canvas and rub the
reverse side paper transferring the drawing.
Select brmehes and paint according to design layering on
one color and letting it dry before placing other colors
over it. For a three dimensional effect, layer the
paint on thick with a painter's knife. Feel free
to go with whatever you are feeling. |
45: Put on a series
(once per month) of salon style events in your home,
yard or at your favorite venue Ire you can invite
friends, peers and others you Trust to talk.
Create a calendar over the course of the year that
touches discussions that affect the professional sectors
of all invited. Share ideas, tips, invite speakers
as Ill as those who have stories to tell. Keep an
open and fun environment by serving food, wine and
dessert to bring a light mood to the discussions. |
46: Bring your
favorite seasons into your office by blowing up and
framing a favorite photo or two and then selecting
colors from those photos as an accent themes for trim,
chairs, cabinets, curtains, etc. |
47: use your favorite
rendering or photo to create a pattern for one or more
decorative tiles as a center piece for side tables in
your office. Visit your local craft store for
blank tiles and design kits and how to information.
You can use single tiles with furniture pads affixed
underneath to make heat dispersers for hot
tea\coffee pots or completely cover an unsightly table. |
48: Create a warm and
interesting collage to cover an unsightly table by
placing an assortment of your favorite renderings and
photos, mixed with event tickets, flyers, and other
professional memorabilia in an interesting pattern.
Cover the collage with glass and place the table where
your waiting guests can see your experiences. |
49: Blow up a favorite
photo or rendering and take it to a frame shop to have
it installed it in a box with a light behind it.
This look works great for a dark corner. |

50: Frame an
assortment of your favorite shots in miniature matching
woods, metalics or plaster and place them on the
bathroom wall off your office home or suite. Add
nicely potted plants and a matching table to give an
executive look. |
51: Create a calendar
of your favorite photos or renderings to give annually.
Prepare by selecting a variety of seasonal shots and
placing them with appropriate sayings. |
52: Create a monthly
or quarterly newsletter for your professional or family
circle and use your favorite photos and renderings to
enrich professional storytelling. |
53: Create a small
Ibsite using your most sophisticated photos or
renderings. You can do it in as little as 3 pages
by placing your services on cover page; background on
the about page; address, map and telephone info on the
contact page. |
54: Create short but
memorable presentations of awardees or family members by
collecting a variety of photos from their experience and
placing them into presentation software; then lay down a
music track with samplings from a few songs. |
55: Enlarge a favorite
photo or rendering to mark an important event and have
it printed on a three foot card to mark an important
event. Simply take the art to your local print
shop and have them print it on one half of a large piece
of card stock. |
56: Create posters for
events by enlarging appropriate photos or renderings,
editing them for event information in your word
processing or photo editing software and having them
printed on poster paper. |
57: Create a variety
of signs using appropriate photos or renderings by
enlarging the art, writing the text and printing it on
sign board. Your local office supply shop carries
a wide variety of sign stock including signs that stand
independently. |
58: Create an auction
kit by using your word processing software to place your
auction information in a table formula. Create a
cover and ad photos to make the booklet interesting to
view. Make companion tickets by using the method
outlined in idea # 30 with the merge data for numbering
the tickets. |
59: Create a tri-fold
brochure using your word processing software. Set
your page up horizontally with half inch margins.
Insert a three column table and place your professional
information in a table. Pay close attention to the
way your printer prints the samples so that you have the
brochure cover in the correct section. use this
same method on a second page and set your printer to
print two sided or print a series on the first side and
then flip your paper to print on the second side. |
60: Create a lineage
website that hosts your family, history, marriages,
births, and deaths. Take digital photos of your
favorite family pictures and post them. Encourage
relatives to take digital photos of their family
pictures and email them to you so they can be uploaded
right away. You can make the site private by
creating a log in for family members using a secure
server and have them post their contact emails so that
they can communicate with each other. |
